Sarah Burton appointed vice-principal at Winston Churchill High School

Lethbridge School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Burton as vice-principal at Winston Churchill High School, commencing the 2025/2026 school year.
An educator that possesses a depth of experience, Burton has a passion for teaching and learning.
She strives to create positive learning environments based on individual and collective growth.
Burton is also passionate about culture, diversity and equality, and has travelled, volunteered and lived in other countries, including Bolivia, where she became fluent in Spanish.
With that skill, Burton served as a Spanish teacher for 11 years at Churchill, before she moved to the role of Learning Support and EAL teacher and then Inclusive Learning Support teacher.
Next year, Burton will join Churchill’s administrative team.
“I am honoured and excited to continue my journey with my Churchill family in a new role as vice-principal,” she said. “This incredible community has profoundly impacted my growth as both an educator and a person, and I am eager to embrace the opportunities ahead to learn, evolve and take on new challenges.”
Burton has spent the bulk of her career at Churchill, which began in 2003 as an IB Math teacher. She continued teaching at WCHS until 2010, when Burton moved on the Chinook to teach Math and Spanish. She returned to Churchill in 2017 and has been there ever since.
An unapologetic optimist that has a great deal of faith in youth, teachers and education, Burton is excited to see what the future holds at WCHS.
“I am deeply grateful for the invaluable experiences that have shaped me, and I look forward to continuing to strengthen Churchill’s vibrant and diverse community,” said Burton. “By collaborating with students, families and staff, I aim to build meaningful connections that uplift and inspire all learners and foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where every student and family feels valued, supported and empowered.”
Burton is currently attending Queens University to obtain her Masters in Education, Cultural and Policy Studies.
She already holds a Bachelor of Science - Mathematics, Bachelor of Education - Mathematics Education, from the University of Lethbridge.
