What do international students say about our schools?

I came to Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI) in the second semester in January. As soon as I came into the school office I felt very welcome. I got a school tour from Mr.Lowe and it was really nice because I would have got lost. The school seemed pretty big at first. It took almost a week for me to get used to it. Now I’m really enjoying every day at school because I met nice people and a lot of them are international students as well. Also my classes are very interesting. I am taking Math, English, Social and Drama. I learn something new in each class which is very important for me. Teachers are nice and are always ready to help. I find the whole atmosphere of the school very hospitable. I am going to continue my education at LCI to finish grades 11 and 12, and earn an Alberta High School Diploma. And I am very excited about it!

It takes courage to change your language, culture, school, country and life style, but the truth is that you gain a lot [when attending high school in Canada].  This experience is a unique opportunity to try new things.  I'm from a very warm city, but here I tried curling, skiing, snowboarding and I love watching winter sports. This is one of the things I don't have back home and I will remember it for the rest of my life.  You also make new friendships for life.  Being abroad makes you have an open mind.  Coming to Canada, you'll realize that is a very multicultural country. You'll get to know people from all over the world and learn about their own culture and tradition. I found it unique!

Being an international student is one of the best things that ever happened to me. The reason is because I had a great time here.  The key is trying new things, and don't be afraid of what other people think.  Being involved in school activities is another thing that makes you meet other students and helps you to make friends, because in doing these activities you spend lot of time at school so that it's like your second home.  LCI has activities for everyone.  If you like sports, music, dance, fashion, languages, cooking, and of course curricular subjects, there's always something for you!

Take a chance to experience the feeling of being an international student, I guarantee you will have an amazing time in your life that you'll always remember with happiness.

Since I arrived in Canada it has been an indescribable experience, making new friends, growing in maturity, learning to enjoy what before seemed strange.  Whether at school or at home, the people here believe in me and trust me, they are always willing to help and support me in any way I need. Studying in Canada is not only learning about the English language, but means I’ve learned more about myself, learned to communicate well and to pursue my goals. During my stay in Lethbridge I have had the opportunity to meet people from other countries, and find pleasure in simple things like sitting with someone and sharing experiences.  This has given me a greater vision of what the world is about, and what we must do to be really prepared for what life has in store for our future.

Even though I am still at the beginning of my studies in Lethbridge, when I leave, I know I'll miss not only the people at Chinook High School, but this opportunity to live in Canada.  The people in Chinook High School are wonderful and really friendly. The assistance the school offered me is lovely and the elective classes that the school offers are amazing, with fully trained and loving teachers. I just have to thank my host family and my friends and teachers for what you have done for me every day, trying to help me whenever I need assistance.

It's great to live this journey, to share my culture and the Canadian culture, discovering that we all have something good in common. It has been a satisfying experience. This certainty was the best choice I ever made!
