Running for Office

Lethbridge School Division promotes and encourages interested citizens to run for the office of elected school board trustee. 

Become a Trustee

The Local Authorities Election Act, states that a person is eligible to be nominated as a candidate in any election under this Act if on nomination day the person

(a)   is eligible to vote

(b)   has been a resident of the local jurisdiction for 6 consecutive months immediately preceding nomination day, and

(c)    is not otherwise ineligible or disqualified

Notice of intent

Residents who want to run for office to become Mayor, City Councillor, Lethbridge Public School Trustee or Separate School Trustee must submit a Notice of Intent before they can collect campaign contributions and be added to the ballot: NOTICE OF INTENT.

Nomination process

Starting Jan. 1, 2025, residents can submit Nomination Papers to become official candidates and ensure their name appears on the ballot in the 2025 Lethbridge Election: NOMINATION FORM.
For Public School Trustee candidates, five signatures are required.
Candidates must submit their Nomination Papers in person at City Hall. Appointments must be booked by emailing election@lethbridge.ca.

TBA: Trustee Swearing In and Orientation Module 2, Module 3A - 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
- Continuation of Trustee orientation - dates to be announced 

TBA: Board organizational meeting and regular meeting (1 p.m. start) - Education Centre

(The Board generally meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month from September to June. The meetings are held in the board room located in the Education Centre at 433-15th Street South. Board meetings begin at 3:30 p.m. and are open to the public.)
