École Agnes Davidson Insectarium project includes special guest from Montreal

Earlier today, École Agnes Davidson students had a very special visitor to assist in the school's Insectarium project.
The idea began when Grade 2 teacher Danielle Low and Learning Support teacher Cynthia Greenfield developed a project to support students who were at various stages of the writing process.
Rather then have Greenfield work with a small group of students, Davidson's Learning Support teacher ventured into the classroom to team teach with Low. By having two teachers work with the whole class, they were able to meet kids were they were at and every student experienced success.
Together, they built differentiated materials that provided support for emerging writers, yet still challenged the more proficient writers. Mini-lessons were designed to address various writing concepts. The duo also connected with many people to make the project come to life, such as Learning Commons Facilitator, Dana Porowski, you helped select mentor texts for the project.
Greenfield and Low attended The Layers of Literacy Workshop at SWATCA to learn more about the writing process, and met with the presenters after their session for 30-45 minutes to get feedback on the idea.
Then, on June 2, Justin Rousseau, a nature interpreter at the Insectarium de Montréal, joined students via a video link. Earlier, Rousseau had reviewed the student work and found insects in their professional collection that had similar adaptations to those invented by the students.
