WCHS teachers take home Bruce Haig scholarship

Wednesday at Winston Churchill High School, two teachers were honoured with the Bruce Haig Award.
The scholarship opportunity was created for middle school and high school teachers in Lethbridge School Division, in honour of Bruce Haig, who spent his career as a teacher. His time in education was highlighted by his time at Hamilton Junior High School, where Haig developed an outdoor education course, along with an audio-visual program where students used high-end cameras, tape recorders and other equipment.
In partnership with the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta, Bruce Haig's family developed a $1,000 scholarship, to be presented yearly. The scholarship is meant to recognize teachers who are planning to implement an innovative idea/project in their classroom.
This year, Joel Heyland and Geoff Waugh took home the scholarship for the WCHS Agri-Gardening program.
