École Agnes Davidson wins RAK draw through Community Foundation

A Grade 3 class at École Agnes Davidson has been selected through a random draw for the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta’s Random Act of Kindness Day contest.
But even though the draw was random, Alain Zumbach’s French Immersion class certainly earned the honour, as the students headed the foundation’s call for the community to perform random kind acts across southwestern Alberta.
The Grade 3 class picked up garbage in the Agnes Davidson park on a chilly morning, and collected 20 small garbage bags of trash.
Today, on Giving Tuesday – a global movement that promotes philanthropy, the Community Foundation announced recipients of 10 $500 Kindness Grants.
The students, as participants in Random Act of Kindness Day, shared their kind trash-collecting act with the Community Foundation, and were then entered into a random draw for the chance to award a $500 Kindness Grant to the local CRA-registered charity of the winner’s choosing.
“We know that kind acts really can change the world,” said Community Foundation Executive Director Charleen Davidson. “Whether you’re the one performing the kind act or the recipient of a kind act, that one small act really does brighten your day. We thank everyone who participated in this year’s Random Act of Kindness Day, and congratulate all of the recipients of Kindness Grants.”
So, we had some great discussions with the students about which organisation will receive the $500.
The students came up with nine official charities and then voted to make a short list of five charities. In the end, École Agnes Davidson voted to award the $500 to the SPCA.
