Brad Dersch appointed principal at G.S. Lakie Middle School

Lethbridge School Division is pleased to announce Brad Dersch has been appointed principal for G.S. Lakie Middle School, commencing the 2022/2023 school year.
A student magnet with an unwavering commitment to making school a welcoming environment for all students, Dersch works tirelessly to support student engagement in school. He has been an educator and school administrator at the middle school level for 21 years. Over the past eight years as an administrator, he has demonstrated he is student centred, a team player and committed to growth and improvement.
Dersch is intuitive and a problem solver who makes decisions grounded in what is best for students, staff and the school community. He was a teacher at G. S. Lakie at a time when it was a school of over 1,000 students and has insight into how capacity can be built as a 600-student school over time.
He is passionate about providing middle school students with opportunities across the arts, athletics and a breadth of options while maintaining a strong academic program that meets the needs of all students. Making the school a great place to be for students and staff is always at the forefront of his leadership. Dersch is a strong believer in inclusive schools where all students feel welcome, safe and a member of the school community. Dersch’s goal is to work collectively with staff, students and parents to create a vision of a school that embraces the past and maps a future of successful experience for all students.
He believes Lakie is comprised of quality staff who possess the expertise and passion for youth that is a recipe for success. He is a strong proponent of investing time in building capacity and creating opportunities for growth.

Dersch has a breadth of experience as a middle school teacher. As a school leader, he was vice-principal at Wilson Middle School and acting principal and vice-principal at G. S. Lakie Middle School. His experience and wisdom will serve the school well.
He received his Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge and was awarded his Master of Arts in Leadership and Administration from Gonzaga University.  G.S. Lakie will benefit from his experience, expertise and commitment to the school community.
