On Thursday evening, G.S. Lakie Middle School hosted the 2025 Lethbridge School Division Indigenous Awards.
The vent included an opening prayer from Tom Little Bear, an honour song by Julius Delaney and addresses from Superintendent Mike Nightingale and Board Chair Christine Light.
After the formalities, students from Victoria Park High School, Gilbert Paterson Middle School, Lethbridge Collegiate Institute, Senator Joyce Fairbairn Middle School, Winston Churchill High School, Wilson Middle School, Chinook High School and G.S. Lakie Middle School were recognized.
In all, approximately 350 awards were handed out throughout the evening.
As students, staff and parents/guardians/caregivers made their way into the school Thursday night, a giant tipi, set up on the front lawn by Jason Plain Eagle, greeted them.
