Trades 4U connects students with hands-on learning opportunities
On Nov. 27, Lethbridge School Division students had a unique opportunity to explore the world of work.
Students visited businesses throughout southern Alberta for the annual Trades 4U event, which gave students in Grade 9 to Grade 12 hands-on experiences trying a wide variety of trades.
Local, skilled tradespeople in the region gave students a real-life look at what their jobs entail, from professions like cooking and hairstyling, to automotives, heavy equipment service, welding and electrical.
“This is the third year of organizing this highly-successful event that gives students a real hands-on experience to see the incredible opportunities in the skilled trades,” said Andrew Krul, Off Campus Education Coordinator for Lethbridge School Division. “The best part of the evening is to stand back and watch these highly-skilled welders, electricians, autobody technicians, bakers and many others share their expertise with the students. A special thank you to all the other school divisions who helped set up this event and we cannot thank the 35 businesses across southern Alberta enough for giving up their evening time for this event.”
Krul added Trades 4U was extremely successful once again.
“Students were highly engaged and we heard many comments from parents who attended, such as, ‘This great, wish we had this when we were in school.’ ”
