Morgan Day appointed principal at Gilbert Paterson Middle School

Lethbridge School Division is pleased to announce Morgan Day has been appointed principal at Gilbert Paterson Middle School, commencing the 2023/2024 school year.
Day’s leadership experience is characterized by a passion for doing what is in the best interest of students and the foundation of creating meaningful, healthy relationships that support a community centered in learning and growth. She believes that communities of belonging are shaped by conversations about how and where to improve, understanding reason and purpose (the Why), and being open minded to other voices and perspectives. Day possesses an energy that is infectious and is a leader who has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the school community she serves.
She believes that schools need to demonstrate the values that they want to foster in their students, and that leadership involves building a team that meets the diverse needs of the school community.
Day has a strong background in the sciences and fine arts. As an educator and leader, she has demonstrated the importance of cross-curricular learning and modeled growth mindset in teaching and learning. She is bilingual in English and French and has insight into building strong school communities that have different programs and areas of focus.
Day has assumed a variety of roles as an educator at the high school level including math, science and drama at Chinook High School and Winston Churchill High School. Her role as a Learning Support Teacher at Chinook High School informs her understanding of the demands of diverse classrooms and the instructional practice and support structures that will contribute to student success.
Her experience as a teacher at École Agnes Davidson contributes to her wisdom about leading a high functioning dual track school with both English and French.
Day has served as vice-principal at Winston Churchill High School for seven years. This role has provided experience in instructional supervision, oversight of Modern Language, English, Fine Arts, Social Studies and Science. She has also supervised the International Baccalaureate program, Alternative Programs, the Wellness Team, scheduling and PowerSchool, practicum interns and assisted with professional learning of staff. An active leader in the Division, she has served on the Division Mentorship Program, Health Champions, Positive Spaces, Student Leadership and Administrator Professional Learning.
“I am thrilled to be joining the incredibly vibrant staff of Gilbert Paterson,” said Day. “I am proud to learn alongside this caring, thoughtful group of people in a bi-lingual community. It is my hope that my passion for inclusion, learning and the provision of a quality educational experience for students will complement this awesome school, and that we will continue to grow together on our journey.”
Day earned her Bachelor of Science majoring in Neuroscience and Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Lethbridge. She was also awarded her Masters of Science degree majoring in Neuroscience from the University of Lethbridge.
