McKenzie appointed vice-principal at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute

Lethbridge School Division is pleased to announce Kyle McKenzie has been appointed vice-principal for Lethbridge Collegiate Institute.
A passionate and energetic educator, McKenzie engages as a leader with the same basic philosophy that earned him the reputation as a master teacher – inspire, support and spark the curiosity that forwards growth.
He is deeply interested in pedagogy that engages students in conceptual understanding and critical thinking. The desire to draw on students’ innate instinct to question everything and look beyond what is known is foundational to his practice as a leader who supports innovation across curriculum. McKenzie is also passionate about supporting school culture. He loves to organize student activities that drive students to feel something about themselves and each other in a climate imbued with pride for school and respect for one another.
McKenzie works hard to support inclusive practices that contribute to schools that are safe and caring. He is an enthusiastic supporter of student activities and a strong presence in the school. An LCI graduate, he is excited to contribute to the “Green to Gold” character education initiative and support staff and students in building a culture where students can thrive as learners and citizens.
“I feel very lucky to be granted the opportunity to work for the staff and students of LCI,” said McKenzie. “As a graduate of LCI myself, I know it is a school with strong historical ties to the community and steeped in tradition. I will do my very best to rise to the challenge and live up to the reputation that comes with wearing Green and Gold.”
McKenzie began his career at G.S. Lakie Middle School and then spent time with Palliser School Division teaching a wide variety of high school math and science courses and overseeing off-campus education. He returned to Lakie teaching math and science, some physical education and social studies. He became a vice-principal at G. S. Lakie Middle School in 2016 and has assumed a variety of leadership responsibilities in this evolving role.
He possesses a strong interest in the effective implementation of online/e-learning and social media. Possessing a strong interest in professional learning, he has supported the Teacher Induction Program as a committee member and contributed to the Middle School Professional Learning Committee.
McKenzie completed a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education with the University of Lethbridge. He earned his Master of Education in Educational Leadership degree in 2010 with the University of Lethbridge.
