LCI Instrumental Music program brings home honours for 2022/2023
It has been a banner year for the music program at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute.
The 2022/2023 school year included numerous awards and honours for the school’s respective bands, which all began at the Lethbridge Music Festival, where the Green Concert Band earned a Superior Rating. LCI’s Gold Symphonic Band also took home a Superior Rating, along with the Fred Memorial Scholarship for a deserving School Band.
Festival honours also went to the Gold Jazz Band with its Superior Rating and the Nick Kucheran Memorial Trophy for best performance in Stage Band Classes.
The Gold Jazz Combo A took a Superior Rating and the Stage Band Award, along with best overall performance by a Stage Band.
Gold Jazz Combo B took home a Superior Rating as well.
But it was at the Heritage Festival in Anaheim, California, where LCI’s music program really made its mark.
The Gold Symphonic Band cleaned house and earned the Adjudicator Award (high score of 92 or higher) and the Outstanding Band Award (highest instrumental ensemble score).
LCI’s Gold Jazz Band won the Gold Award (high score of 90 or higher) and the Gold Jazz Band and Gold Symphonic Band took home the prestigious Instrumental Sweepstakes Award (highest combined score).
There LCI musicians were also recognized with the Maestro Award, which included Ben Weiss (bass guitar), Jayla Matchett (bari sax) and Mia Chalmet (piccolo).
At the Red Deer Provincial Band Festival, the Green Concert Band earned Superior Performance recognition.
