LCI hosts Indigenous graduation ceremony on May 21

Tuesday evening, Lethbridge Collegiate Institute played host to Lethbridge School Division’s annual Indigenous Graduation event.
Approximately 40 graduates from Chinook High School, LCI, Victoria Park High School and Winston Churchill High School were recognized.
Joel Tailfeathers, the Division’s Co-ordinator of Indigenous Education, was joined by Superintendent Mike Nightingale and Trustee Christine Light, who delivered greetings on behalf of the Division.
For Tailfeathers, the graduation ceremony represents an important milestone for students, and helped cap off a long educational journey.
“It’s a great way to bring together our community to help celebrate with the families all of the hard work that these students have done for the past 13 years.”
At the event, Blackfoot students received smudge boxes and a blanket, Metis students were gifted a sash and Inuit students received an ulu.
Tailfeathers added the evening would not have been a success without the tireless efforts of the Division Indigenous Education team, which includes Shawnee Big Bull, Melanie Morrow and Oshana Christiansen, along with the Division graduation coaches, Marly HeavyShield, Joni Breaker, Jean PantherBone and Juliette Toledo.
