Kerry Taylor appointed vice-principal of Mike Mountain Horse Elementary School

Lethbridge School District No. 51 is pleased to announce the appointment of Kerry Taylor as vice-principal of Mike Mountain Horse Elementary School, commencing the 2019/2020 school year.

Passionate about learning, growth and development, Taylor joins Lethbridge School District No. 51 with a deep understanding of curriculum and pedagogy. Over the course of her career as an educator and her time as a school leader, she has strived to be visionary in the promotion of teacher and student learning. She strives to empower, inspire and support staff in the engagement of students. Taylor believes in building critical thinkers through inquiry-based learning. Her experience as a Learning Support Teacher and Learning Coach has built a strong experiential understanding of inclusion in the classroom, as well as a depth of knowledge regarding community and agency support structures.

"I am thrilled to be joining Lethbridge School District No. 51 and am so excited to join the amazing teaching and learning team at Mike Mountain Horse Elementary School,” said Taylor. “I cannot wait to meet all 650-plus of your smiling faces on the very first day of school! Teaching is my passion and I look forward to building positive relationships with the students, staff and community in order to provide all students with the highest quality educational opportunities."

An educator and leader at the elementary level for a number of years, Taylor’s early work fell under the umbrella of Early Literacy Intervention. She also assumed the role of classroom teacher, Special Education Facilitating Teacher, and more recently, Learning Support Teacher. A school leader for over 12 years, Taylor has served as vice-principal at Magrath Elementary School and is currently vice-principal of Raymond Elementary School, with over 700 students.

A role that she gets excited about and hopes to continue with Lethbridge 51, is mentoring of teachers new to the profession.

Taylor completed a Bachelor of Arts and Education majoring in English Language Arts and minoring in Social Studies at the University of Lethbridge. She earned her Masters in Education, Language and Literacy Specialization at the University of Calgary.
