Josh Gibbon appointed principal at Galbraith Elementary School

Lethbridge School Division is pleased to announce Josh Gibbon has been appointed principal at Galbraith Elementary School, commencing the 2025/2026 school year.
An educator with seven years of experience as a school principal, Gibbon’s leadership style and his ability to foster effective relationships within his school community will serve him well at Galbraith.
“I am really looking forward to getting to know the students, staff and community at Galbraith Elementary School,” said Gibbon. “I have heard wonderful things about the culture there and am excited to get to be part of that. A big part of what I believe a school should be is a place where students and staff feel welcome and valued. It should be a place we all look forward to coming to everyday. I hope to continue to build off the strong legacy that previous administrators and the staff have established at Galbraith.”
His educational career began in Las Vegas, Nevada, at an inner-city school, where Gibbon taught Grade 3 during the day and adult ESL classes at night. After two years there, he moved back to Canada for a job at Prairie Land School Division, where he taught grades 1-3 part time at a Colony School and worked part time as a high school options teacher at Youngstown School. Gibbon taught Spanish, Art and CALM.
The following year, he was hired as the Learning Support Teacher at Delia School, where he also taught elementary Physical Education classes. After a few years there, Gibbon accepted a Grade 6 teaching job at Grasslands School Division in Rosemary School. After his first year in Rosemary, Gibbon took on the role of Athletic Director and also began to teach junior high Science and P.E. classes. He also took on the role of Learning Support Teacher.
During that time, Gibbon started his Masters program in School Leadership and Administration through Gonzaga University. At the conclusion of that program, Gibbon took on the role of vice-principal at Rosemary school.
Two years later, an opportunity arose at Bassano School, where Gibbon served for two years as vice-principal and taught Grade 5 Science, Math, junior/senior high Spanish classes and Learning Support.
Gibbon was then hired to be the principal of Rosemary and Gem schools, where he has also taught elementary and junior high P.E. From there, Gibbon took on the role of vice-principal at Coalbanks Elementary School.
Throughout his time as a school administrator, Gibbon has endeavoured to create supportive learning environments for students and staff, as he has worked with students, parents and teachers to develop programming that best meets the learning needs of students.
He has also been heavily involved with coaching basketball, track and field and cross country in each of the schools he has worked in.
“At Coalbanks, I had the opportunity to coach basketball once again and was privileged to work with some talented teachers and our COBRA club (Student Council) in re-introducing our school values to our students through monthly assemblies and activities.” said Gibbon. “Although I was only at Coalbanks for a year, I learned a lot from the staff, students and the community. I am very grateful for my experience there and will miss working with everyone. Coalbanks has a strong tradition of making students feel welcome and cared for and I am lucky to take that example with me as I do my best to carry that with me to my new school.”
His degrees include a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education, with a Minor in Teaching English as a Second Language, from the University of Alberta, and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration, from Gonzaga University.
