Fairbairn's CBC Classroom Music Challenge submission earns second place

Senator Joyce Fairbairn Middle School’s submission for this year’s CBC Classroom Music Challenge earned second place in the Category 5: Junior Instrumental (grades 7-10) division.
It features the song, A Little Bit Happy, performed by the school’s Grade 6-8 Concert Band/Falcons Samba Squad).
The creative talents of the students are showcased in a dynamic and innovative performance, with collaboration between Band 6, 7 and 8 students and the Falcon Samba Squad — the Brazilian drumming ensemble, along with live electronic beat-making performed by students.
Under the direction of band director Kyle Harmon, the students fused traditional rhythms with modern electronic elements to create a unique rendition of a song by a Canadian artist.
The project highlights the diversity and creativity of the music program and celebrates the power of collaboration and cultural appreciation.
The performance demonstrates the vibrant energy of Fairbairn’s music program and the dedication of the young musicians.
Song arrangement was provided by Kyle Harmon and Kathy Zaborsky and audio engineering and audio mix work was done by Michael Ayotte.
Drone footage was captured by Brad Greve, while video footage was taken by Keith Miller and Sarah Harmon. Video editing was completed by Kyle Harmon.
