Division marks beginning of Truth and Reconciliation Week
On Monday morning, Lethbridge School Division staff kicked off Truth and Reconciliation Week with a special ceremony at The Aakaipookaiksi Building (Education Centre).
Joel Tailfeathers, the Division's Co-ordinator of Indigenous Education, led staff in an Every Child Matters Flag Raising event.
Division Supt. Mike Nightingale and Board Vice-Chair Christine Light, who is also chair of the Indigenous Education Advisory Committee, also spoke at the event.
Indigenous singers and drummers Julius and Troy Delaney performed a honour song as the flag was raised. Julius Delaney also described his experiences as a residential school survivor.
