Acting Principal and Acting Vice-Principals appointed for 2023/2024

Lethbridge School Division is pleased to announce Andy Tyslau has been appointed Acting Principal of Dr. Robert Plaxton Elementary, for the 2023/2024 school year.
“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the trust and support I’ve been shown as I step into the role of Acting Principal,” said Tyslau. “I am truly honoured and excited to lead our school community, and am thankful for the continued opportunity to collaborate, learn and grow with the amazing staff and students at Dr. Plaxton.”
Tyslau has been vice-principal at Dr. Plaxton since the beginning of the 2021/2022 school year. He had previously served in the role of vice-principal at Galbraith Elementary School since the fall of 2017.
His teaching career spans 15 years in Lethbridge School Division. He first taught at the Community Outreach School and then G.S. Lakie Middle School, spanning his first nine years as a classroom teacher, teaching mostly science to middle school students.
In 2013, he had the opportunity to be seconded with the University of Lethbridge as a Teacher Associate in the Faculty of Education, working closely with new teachers in the profession. After the one-year secondment, he returned to G.S. Lakie to take on the role of Learning Support Teacher and a short time later had the opportunity to be a part of the admin team as an acting assistant principal.  
Tyslau completed his Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of Lethbridge majoring in Sciences. He earned a Master of Education degree in School Leadership and Administration from Gonzaga University.
The Division is also pleased to announced Lois Van Roon has been appointed Acting Vice-Principal of Dr. Robert Plaxton Elementary School, for the 2023/2024 school year.
“I am honoured to accept the position of Acting Vice-Principal at Dr. Plaxton this year,” said Van Roon. “I am thrilled to continue my journey of leading and learning with the staff, students and families of the Dr. Plaxton School. I can’t wait to get to know you, Plaxton community!”
Her most recent role was as Vice-Principal and Learning Support teacher at Lethbridge Christian School, serving Kindergarten through Grade 8. Previously, Van Roon was the Learning Support Teacher at Lakeview Elementary School.
Van Roon started her post-secondary pursuits at Capernwray Harbour Bible Centre and then completed a Bachelor of Education at the University of Manitoba. She completed her Master of Education in Literacy with the addition of leadership studies through the University of Lethbridge and graduated in 2020.
The Division is also pleased to announced Linda Bateman has been appointed Acting Vice-Principal of Lethbridge Christian School, for the 2023/2024 school year.
“While I love being in the classroom building relationships with students and their families, I am very much looking forward to contributing in this new capacity to the warm and vibrant learning community at LCS,” said Bateman. “I believe that my experience and educational specialization in literacy can make a valuable contribution.”
Bateman has been teaching for 16 years. After a brief stint as a substitute teacher in Lethbridge School Division and Livingstone Range School Division, she has served as an elementary educator at Lethbridge Christian School teaching Grade 3 and Grade 4.
In 2020, she added a Master of Education in Literacy to her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees (specializing in Indigenous Studies), all from the University of Lethbridge.
