Wishing Day celebrated throughout Lethbridge School Division

Friday, May 1 is Wishing Day throughout Lethbridge School Division.
The day is set to mark the one-year anniversary of the One District One Book project, the first of its kind in North America.
This time last year, schools were wrapping up the project, which centred around author Katherine Applegate's book, Wishtree.
The photo gallery below highlights how some Division schools celebrated Wishing Day, along with members of the community such as Mayor Chris Spreaman and Joyce and Ron Sakamoto.
Spearman revealed his three wishes: 1. For Lethbridge to come out of the pandemic crisis as a stronger and a more united community. 2. For the people in Fort McMurray: a wish for a rapid recovery from the flood that ravaged their city in April. 3. For the world: a wish that a vaccine is found to protect the world from further spread of the coronavirus.
The Sakamotos tied wishes to a tree in their front yard to mark the one-year anniversary.
Schools, such as GILBERT PATERSON and MIKE MOUNTAIN HORSE, created videos for their students.
A special video from Wishtree author Katherine Applegate can be found here: WISHTREE.
