Galbraith Grade 4 students create personalized video Land Acknowledgements
As part of the Grade 4 new science curriculum, Earth Systems, conservation and preservation of the land is a focus.
Students at Galbraith Elementary School discussed respecting the land and taking only what they need in relationship to Indigenous ways of knowing.
“Grade 4 students were excited to bring the Land Acknowledgement into their perspective and their own words and showed a deep understanding that it is everyone's responsibility to take care of the land we share,” said Katie Maclean, a Grade 4 teacher at Galbraith. “To my knowledge the Land Acknowledgements will be shared during announcements on a weekly basis with all students.”
For far, the feedback on the project has been amazing.
“The feedback from other staff and students was very positive, and many other kids are asking if they will get to do that in Grade 4,” said Maclean.
