Steven Comm appointed Counselling Coordinator for Division

Lethbridge School Division is pleased to announce Steven Comm has been appointed Counselling Coordinator for Lethbridge School Division, commencing the 2025/2026 school year.
Comm brings a balanced background in leadership, mental health, teaching and school-based support, along with a deep commitment to student wellness.
“I’m excited to step into a role that brings together my experience as a vice-principal and teacher-counsellor,” said Comm. “I’ve seen firsthand how collaborative, well-supported teams can transform a school’s ability to meet the needs of students and families. My goal is to help those teams feel trusted, supported and confident in the work they’re doing every day. I bring a calm, relational approach and a practical understanding of both school systems and mental health, and I’m committed to continuing to learn and grow alongside the teams I support.”
Over the last few years, Comm has had the opportunity to support school staff and wellness teams in schools across the Division. This has included leading Violence Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) response teams to collaborate on policies and resources related to Division wellness teams.
Comm has gained valuable insight into the demands and opportunities across the Division, through work with the city’s Youth Engagement Officer and a number of other agencies, all in an effort to support students in need and strengthen school-community partnerships.
Comm has held a variety of roles in education. He started his career in the Langley School District in 2013, where he worked as a teacher and then a teacher-counsellor. He served as vice-principal at R.C. Garnett Demonstration Elementary for his last two years before moving to Lethbridge.
Since 2022, he has worked as a teacher-counsellor at Wilson Middle School, and at both Westminster and Senator Buchanan elementary schools. Comm also took a temporary Division-based teacher-counsellor role at the end of last school year, providing wellness team and VTRA support across the Division.
Now, he is set to move into the role of Counselling Coordinator.
“What I’ll miss most about working as a teacher-counsellor is being a steady and familiar presence in the lives of students - the person they know they can come to when they need support or simply want to feel seen,” said Comm. “It is the quiet check-ins, the meaningful conversations and witnessing those small moments of growth that have always stayed with me. That kind of connection is deeply important and it has been one of the most meaningful parts of this role.”
Comm possesses a Master of Education: School Counselling, from the City University of Seattle, along with a Bachelor of Education from Trinity Western University and a Bachelor of Arts, also from Trinity Western.
