Nicole Freel appointed vice-principal at Fleetwood-Bawden Elementary School

Lethbridge School Division is pleased to announce Nicole Freel has been appointed vice-principal at Fleetwood-Bawden Elementary School, commencing the 2025/2026 school year.
Freel believes in providing students with challenging learning environments coupled with supports that ensure every student can engage fully in their learning.
She acts on these beliefs by working alongside teachers in providing effective instruction for all students.
She collaborates with staff to implement student-focused practices including academic and behaviour supports, inquiry-based learning, math workshop and comprehensive literacy. One of the most rewarding parts of her position is to see sustained shifts in practice as teachers take risks in their classrooms that lead to deep learning for students.
By building trusting relationships, focusing on our shared purpose when making decisions and being transparent about the “why” behind these choices, Freel has seen success as a school leader.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Fleetwood-Bawden community, where I’ll have the opportunity to learn and grow alongside the incredible staff, students and families,” said Freel. “I am committed to fostering a collaborative, community-centred environment that encourages a culture of learning — one where everyone feels connected, trusted and empowered to take risks. I’m eager to begin building meaningful relationships with the students, staff and families at Fleetwood-Bawden.”
Currently the vice-principal at Galbraith Elementary School, Freel has served as Learning Support Teacher at Galbraith, and also has a breadth of experience at different elementary schools as a successful classroom teacher. She has collaborated with teachers in the implementation of student-focused practices including concept-based learning, universal, targeted and individualized supports and comprehensive literacy strategies.
“My time at Galbraith has been truly invaluable, shaping me both as an educator and a leader,” said Freel. “The strong relationships and the vibrant, dedicated community there have played a significant role in my growth. While I will deeply miss everyone at Galbraith Elementary School, I’m profoundly grateful for their unwavering support as I continue my journey as a learner and leader.”
Freel has a Bachelor of Arts degree and Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Lethbridge. In 2022, she completed her Masters of Education program in Educational Leadership with the University of Lethbridge.
