Nicholas Sheran wins Betty Grigg Inclusive Education Award

Nicholas Sheran Elementary School will be honoured at a gala event later this month to celebrate the school’s commitment to inclusion.
On May 17 at the German Canadian Club, Nicholas Sheran will receive the Betty Grigg Inclusive Education Award from Inclusion Lethbridge.
The award is presented to spotlight a southern Alberta school that displays outstanding inclusive practices in dealing with staff, students, families and the community, and recognizes a culture of inclusion created through both leadership and action.
It honours schools that find ways to make sure all students have the support and opportunity to achieve their academic potential, all while enjoying full participation in all school activities with friends and classmates.
More than 65 years ago, families of children with a developmental disability had a vision of a community that welcomed and included all people. Today that vision lives at the heart of Inclusion Lethbridge.
Betty Grigg was one of the pioneering parents that led the change in our communities and province. She was a well known and respected for building awareness and networks within the community.
This is not the first time a Division school has been recognized with the award.
General Stewart Elementary School (2006), Dr. Gerald B. Probe Elementary School (2008 and 2015), Galbrath Elementary School (2011) and G.S. Lakie Middle School (2016) are the other Division schools that have been honoured.
