Division announces ratification of MOA with CUPE Local #2843

Lethbridge School Division is pleased to announce a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) has been ratified with CUPE Local #2843.
CUPE Local #2843 represents school-based support staff such as Educational Assistants, Office, student and learning commons support staff.
The MOA covers the period from Sept. 1, 2020 to Aug. 31, 2024.
General increases were provided in the agreement of 1.25 per cent, effective June 1, 2023 and 1.5 per cent, effective Feb. 1, 2024. Shortening of the steps on the wage grid and market increases were provided as part of the agreement.
“We’re reminded again how valuable and essential these individuals are,” said Trustee Christine Light, who also served as Chair of the Division negotiation committee. “Our schools would not function well without them. I’d like to thank all members of CUPE Local #2843 for their hard and dedicated work to our students and to our community.”
Board Chair Allison Purcell added the Board of Trustees will continue to press the government to improve financial compensation for this employee group in future agreements.
“These people deserve a living wage – they’re working with our most vulnerable students in class every day,” she said. “We need to continue to advocate for what’s important for our staff.”
