Division athletes and teams have success at Alberta Esports Championships

The Alberta Esports Championships 2024 in Lethbridge was a smashing success.
In all, there were 250 registered players at an event that drew as estimated crowd of 1,500 visitors and supporters.
Lethbridge School Division proudly hosted the event, which saw 18 Division technology staff support the competition throughout the weekend.
Countless sponsors and donations contributed greatly to an event that left the Lethbridge Agri-Food Hub & Trade Centre buzzing with activity.
Division teams had solid showings at the competition, which was highlighted by Lethbridge Collegiate Institute’s provincial championships in Valorant Gold and Rocket League.
LCI took second place in Valorant Green and League of Legends.
LCI also had two top-six finishes in Super Smash Bros.
Coaches at the event for LCI included Mike Harrison (Valorant), Jesse Gamble (Smash Bros), Will Kellett (Rocket League) and Ewan MacFadden (League of Legends).
Senator Joyce Fairbairn Middle School had two players make it into the fifth round in Super Smash Bros.  The school’s Rocket League team, FalconPunch1, placed fifth in its pool, just one spot out of qualifying for the finals.
Gilbert Paterson Middle School had a number of students participate, highlighted by Grade 8 Alex Granson, who placed first in the middle school category for Super Smash Bros.
