Trish Syme appointed co-ordinator of Learning and International Education for District
Lethbridge School District No. 51 is pleased to announce the appointment of Trish Syme as co-ordinator of Learning and International Education for Lethbridge School District No. 51
Syme possesses an infectious energy and the kind of approachable nature that puts students, parents and staff at ease. She considers trust and building relationships as foundational to leadership and commits herself to building strong networks and capacity among staff.
Her leadership is characterized by a deep interest in the learning process and the development of professional capital. As a leader and educator, Syme has demonstrated that valuing diversity and establishing high expectations for respect, compassion and care, blend to create contexts that are safe and welcoming.
She believes in taking the time to create environments where students and adults engage with learning and thrive as individuals. A strong supporter of mentorship and well-versed in adult learning, she is committed to developing professional practice. Syme is collaborative, motivating, and genuine – attributes that will serve her well in her new role.
“Although I am very sad to leave the LCI community, I am very excited to collaborate with the District and school administrators in leading learning with the Teacher Induction Program (TIP), Administrator Mentorship Program, District Student Advisory Program, International Education and policy review/ development,” said Syme. “This is my sixth year at LCI, and through my various capacities as administrator, teacher and coach, I have enjoyed building relationships with many students, staff and parents.”
Syme has a breadth of experience that will contribute to success in her new role. She has 18 years of teaching experience in different systems, including two international years in Abu Dhabi. She has served as a vice-principal at LCI, Victoria Park and G. S. Lakie Middle School over the span of 11 years. She also worked as an advisor with the University of Lethbridge, and was a Child and Youth Care worker before becoming a teacher.
Syme completed a B.A. degree majoring in History at Athabasca University, a B. Ed. majoring in Social Studies and Art at the University of Alberta, Masters Degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Wollogong, Dubai Campus, UAE.
