Three District students in the running for Young Citizens contest

Three Lethbridge School District No. 51 students have submitted projects to Young Citizens as part of the National Heritage Fair Competition.

Videos created by Nycea Hazelwood, a Grade 5 student at Ecole Agnes Davidson, and Grade 5 Anna Skretting and Grade 4 Katelyn Zemp, students at Lakeview Elementary School, are now online and open for voting.

Hazelwood's project, Truth and Reconciliation, examines what reconciliation is, why we need to reconcile and how it is happening in our country. Her video can be found here: RECONCILIATION.

Skretting's project, Sisters of Service, puts a focus on the Sisters of St. Martha, and the contributions that group has made throughout the city of Lethbridge over the years. Her video can be found here: SISTERS.

Zemp's project, Beaver - Canada's National Animal, takes a look at why the beaver became the national animal, and how the hard-working rodent's pelt enticed so many people to journey to Canada. Her video can be found here: BEAVER.

Voting for the contest opened on June 11, and winners will be contacted on Aug. 31. In either the fall of 2019 or the winter of 2020, the winners will travel to Ottawa for the Canada's History Forum.
