Terra Leggat appointed co-ordinator of Inclusive Education for District

Lethbridge School District No. 51 is pleased to announce the appointment of Terra Leggat as co-ordinator of Inclusive Education for Lethbridge School District No. 51.

Leggat possesses a strong belief that all students should have access to classrooms and programs where they can thrive as learners and experience success. Her leadership is characterized by a deep commitment to supporting staff and students in the pursuit of learning and building a culture of collaboration and shared understandings.

Self-reflective and unassuming, Leggat is a transformative leader grounded in service to others. She possess a high level of knowledge in inclusive learning and is always striving to learn more so she can support others.

She embraces challenge and believes pro-active practice and a lens that promotes problem solving and innovation can create amazing learning contexts for all students. Seen as highly competent, authentic and collaborative, staff trust and respect Leggat. She is the kind of leader who works side-by-side and walks the talk – an ideal role model for building capacity of staff in inclusive practices.

 “Through my work as Inclusive Education co-ordinator, it is my endeavour to help facilitate such a learning environment for all students,” said Leggat. “I am excited about the opportunity to work with all schools in the District to support every learner and help build capacity in the staff to have the knowledge, skills and comfort in working with a diverse group of students. I believe the students are the centre of what we do, and therefore it is our responsibility to make the school system work for learners.”

Leggat’s professional journey has prepared her well for her new role. Over the course of 21 years, she has experiences as an educator in a variety of school grade configurations, French Immersion and private school settings. She is currently the vice-principal of École Agnes Davidson, and has served as a Learning Support Teacher. 

Leggat completed her B. Ed. degree at the University of Lethbridge following some post-secondary study in France. She obtained her M.Ed. degree from the University of New England with a focus on Educational Leadership.
