Division earns GFOA award for excellence in financial reporting

The awards keep coming for the Lethbridge School Division Finance Department.

Earlier this month, the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting was awarded to Lethbridge School Division. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) handed out the award for the Division’s annual financial report, which can be found here: REPORT.

The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting Program was established to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high-quality financial reports, and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“We’re pleased to receive this award for the second year in a row,” said Christine Lee, Associate Superintendent, Business Affairs, for Lethbridge School Division. “It shows our Division is committed to excellence in financial reporting.”

The Division’s annual financial report was judged by impartial Canadian Review Committee members to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure," designed to clearly communicate the municipality's financial story, and to motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

Lee added the Division’s Director of Finance, Mark DeBoer, was instrumental in helping the Division earn the award for a second consecutive year.

“A big thank you goes out to Mark for all of his hard work on the report.”
