Creative Design 9 Showcase

Tuesday was final showcase day for a new Grade 9 class created at Chinook High School, called Creative Design 9.  The purpose of the showcase was to allow students to present and seek feedback on a collaborative project they created with a focus on the inquiry question, “How can we build community?”

Chinook developed Creative Design 9 with a vision of creating a different kind of educational experience. The focus of the course is to develop creative, collaborative and critical thinking through inquiry-based learning. The belief was framing a class around these ways of thinking would be tremendously valuable in helping students become more resilient, independent learners, both at Chinook, as well as life outside of high school, so that they may become high-functioning members of society in a quickly-changing world.

For their culminating project, the students formed groups based on a shared passion (such as computer programing, literature, dance, etc.).  Over the past three months, students worked to investigate a way to use their passion to build community. The showcase was their final component, and a chance to share their work.
