Concept-based project brings Coalbanks student to local animal clinic

Gracie Martins presents her 3D-designed rear dog leg splint to Dr. Felicia Lloyd at Green Acres Animal Hospital.

Gracie Martins, a Grade 4 student at Coalbanks Elementary School, created a 3-D tangible object (rear dog leg splint) using a program called Tinkercad.
On Monday morning, Martins donated the usable splint to Green Acres Animal Clinic. Martins named her object Gracie Cares.
Martins took a tour of the clinic and presented her splint to Green Acres staff, who have the Coalbanks suggestions on how the design could be improved upon in the future.
This particular concept-based project involved two parts. The first phased involved producing a tangible object with purpose, and the second phased included displaying a leadership quality that corresponds with the formed object.
"It is my hope that our Division continues to adopt more of these technology-driven projects in the future," said Coalbanks teacher Mike Wevers.
