G.S. Lakie Middle School principal, Sharon Mezei, announces her retirement

Congratulations and best wishes to Sharon Mezei, who has announced that she will be retiring at the end of this school year.
A highly regarded educator and leader, Mezei moves on to her next journey with a legacy of having made a difference to many schools, numerous school staffs, and countless students. The consummate professional, Mezei has modeled the unwavering commitment, passion, and deep level of knowledge that colleagues aspire to.
Mezei is a people-centred leader who possesses a strong moral imperative that has always guided her work with staff, students, and families.
Mezei began her career in Lethbridge School Division as a teacher at LCI. She subsequently went to Fleetwood-Bawden as a teacher and Assistant Principal. This was followed by an Assistant Principal assignment at Winston Churchill High School. Her first Principal designation was at École Agnes Davidson School.
Mezei joined the Education Centre as Associate Superintendent, Human Resources, in 2011. Passionate about supporting staff in many ways, Mezei served as Associate Superintendent for six years before deciding to pursue a career-long passion, that of being a principal of a middle school. Mezei closes her career as principal of GS Lakie Middle School, a school community she is passionate about. She accomplished many things while at Lakie and her presence is instilled as part of the culture moving forward.
“Words cannot express how thankful I am for my 35-year career with the Division and for the multiple layers of learning that I will take with me," said Mezei. "My professional journey with the Division ends with gratitude for the various opportunities that were gifted to me and for the many people that truly made a difference in each one of my assignments. I have felt nothing but supported by all those that I worked closely with and grateful that I can complete my career on a very fulfilling and positive note. As I think about retirement, I know that I will dearly miss the daily interactions with students and colleagues but am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for me including travel, yoga, various outdoor activities, reading, taking up the sport of pickleball and spending more time with family.”
Mezei will delight in the additional time she can spend with family and will always continue to foster positivity in those who are privileged to be around her.
