Andy Tyslau appointed vice-principal for Dr. Robert Plaxton Elementary School

Lethbridge School Division is pleased to announce Andy Tyslau has been appointed vice-principal of Dr. Robert Plaxton Elementary School, commencing the 2021-22 school year. 
Tyslau’s leadership is characterized by a passion for people, relationships and building a community of care and trust. He is unwavering in his commitment to students and possesses an enthusiasm and positivity that is infectious. He is a strong communicator and believes in embracing the shared knowledge of the school staff as a collective body of expertise on students and learning.  
“I am honoured and excited to have the opportunity to be a part of the school team for Dr. Robert Plaxton Elementary," said Tyslau. "I am looking forward to embarking on this incredible journey in a truly innovative learning space that has been designed and structured to promote environmental stewardship and collaboration. I have been so fortunate to have worked with amazing staff and students and I cannot wait to begin connecting, growing and learning with the future staff, students and the school community.” 
Highly committed to both his profession and the community, Tyslau has served on the Teacher Education and Certification ATA Council, has volunteered to be the District’s United Way Co-ordinator, and is always willing to assist with other Division leadership committees.  
He has served in the role of vice-principal at Galbraith Elementary School since the fall of 2017. Tyslau’s teaching career spans 15 years in Lethbridge School Division. He first taught at the Community Outreach School and then G.S. Lakie Middle School, spanning his first nine years as a classroom teacher teaching mostly science to middle school students. 
In 2013, he had the opportunity to be seconded with the University of Lethbridge as a Teacher Associate in the Faculty of Education, working closely with new teachers in the profession. After the one-year secondment, he returned to G.S. Lakie to take on the role of Learning Support Teacher and a short time later had the opportunity to be a part of the admin team as an acting assistant principal.   
Tyslau completed his Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of Lethbridge majoring in Sciences. He earned a Master of Education degree in School Leadership and Administration from Gonzaga University.
