Four District basketball teams qualify for provincial tournaments

Four Lethbridge School District No. 51 basketball teams are heading to provincials after successful zone tournament appearances last weekend.

The Immanuel Christian Eagles are off to High Level after the team won gold in the 2A boys tournament. ICSS begins play Friday at 10:45 a.m.

ICSS is also sending its 2A girls team to provincials, after the Eagles earned silver at zones by virtue of an 87-74 loss to Kainai. The Eagles will make the trek to Le Crete, and will begin play Friday at 12:30 p.m.

The LCI Clippers also earned silver, after a 96-76 loss in the 4A zone final to Raymond. LCI is seeded eighth, and will take on ninth seeded St. Mary’s Thursday at 10 a.m. That tournament will be in Edmonton at Jasper Place High School, also the host of the 4A boys tournament.

The LCI Rams claimed the bronze at 4A boys zones with an 85-65 win over Medicine Hat. That punched LCI’s ticket to provincials, as the No. 10 Rams will take on No. 7 St. Mary’s on Thursday at 10 a.m.
