ICES and Westminster build relationships with winter events

In an effort to continually build and strengthen relationships between the two neighborhood schools, the Immanuel Christian Elementary School and Westminster Elementary School Grade 4 and Grade 5 classes combined for some December events.

On Thursday, Nov. 29, ICES Grade 4 and Grade 5 students walked to Westminster to engage in a sports centre afternoon. Students sorted themselves into groups to participate in sports activity groups (basketball, soccer, four square etc.). Aside from being a good literacy activity, this also served to build community in different cross school groups.

This experience was added to when on Tuesday, Dec. 4, Grade 4 and Grade 5 students from both schools once again got together for a bowling activity. The same literacy groups were used to make cross-school teams for a bowling competition.

This event turned out to be memorable, as students and staff alike did their best in ‘taking down’ pins. Before the event, student teams got together to pick team names and design bowling shirts. Prizes, thank yous and a lot of laughs were exchanged over the course of the event.
