Immanuel Christian Schools Joins District

Immanuel Christian Elementary School and Immanuel Christian High School will be joining Lethbridge School District No.51 in September 2015.

Lethbridge School District No. 51 and the Society for Christian Education in Southern Alberta, are excited to announce that Immanuel Christian Elementary School and Immanuel Christian High School will be joining Lethbridge School District, effective September 2015.

After a year of discussions, the District Board of Trustees formally approved the Society’s request to join Lethbridge School District during their meeting held on Tuesday January 27th.

“This agreement offers significant benefits to both the District and to Immanuel Christian School,” said Dr. Cheryl Gilmore, Superintendent of Lethbridge School District No.51. “Immanuel Christian School will offer an alternative Christian program that is open to all students of Lethbridge School District and the immediate surrounding areas.”

As an Alternative Program, Immanuel Christian School and Immanuel Christian High School will offer families a choice of enrolling in a program that provides an emphasis on a religious perspective embedded in the delivery of the education program.

This will be the second alternative Christian program offered by the District. In 2001, Lethbridge Christian School joined Lethbridge School District.

“We are excited by the opportunities joining with Lethbridge School District presents our students, our staff and our community,” said Scott Van’t Land, Treasurer of the Society for Christian Education in Southern Alberta. “Our school community will benefit from the support and resources available by the Lethbridge School District.”

Lethbridge School District, working with the Society for Christian Education in Southern Alberta, will provide support to the Alternative Program through assistance in curriculum and program development, and technology integration, ensuring that programming meets the needs of students in an Inclusive Education setting that embeds a Christian perspective.

With two campuses in the city, Immanuel Christian School has a current enrolment of 486 students, offering grades K-6 at its elementary school campus, and grades 7-12 at its high school campus.

The next step for the District and Immanuel Christian School will include the transitioning of current staff starting the 2015-16 school year as Lethbridge School District No. 51 employees.

“I am confident the staff will find the learning community of Lethbridge School District No. 51 to be one of strong collegial support with a variety of professional networking opportunities,” commented Dr. Gilmore.

The Society for Christian Education in Southern Alberta remains an integral partner in the education of students at Immanuel Christian School, guiding the Mission and Statement of Faith, and Educational Philosophy. Infused into curriculum delivery and program development at the school, they guide staff, students, and parents.  The Society maintains ownership of the facilities and operation of the transportation system.
