Scotiabank adds to Lakeview playground fundraising total

Fundraising efforts towards a new playground at Lakeview Elementary School have taken another step in the right direction.

Scotiabank representatives visited the school this week and presented a $5,000 cheque. It was the second straight year Scotiabank has contributed $5,000 to the playground, through the bank’s involvement in the annual Superhero Fun Run.

The assembly at Lakeview also saw the school’s parent council present a cheque for $909.20 towards the playground.

That brings the fundraising total to $280,000, as the Lakeview Community Park Society looks to make more progress next year towards the goal of $600,000.

Society member Tiffany Hill said the hope is to start construction by June of 2018, as she added the current wooden playground structure is over 20 years old, and is not accessible for those with disabilities. The current playground is also too small for the school.

“When it was originally built, there were 300 students at the school, and now we have over 500,” said Hill.
