District schools celebrate Pink Shirt Day
Schools throughout Lethbridge School District No. 51 celebrated Pink Shirt Day a week early this year. The official Pink Shirt day is Feb. 22, but with city schools off on the Family Week break that week, District schools marked the occassion on Feb. 15, with a wide variety of events at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
LCI promoted Pink Day 2017 with a photo booth, complete with numerous pink props for students to be creative while raising awareness. Students were encouraged to share their pictures on social media to #LCIPINKDAY2017 and include @LethSD51 and @Redcrossab The idea was to not only have fun creating, but to understand the message being spread world wide.
Wilson Middle School took a group of 10 students downtown to hand out candy bags and positive messages to people as a kindness activity.
Other schools throughout the District held special assemblies, created artwork and other Pink Shirt Day projects, as staff and students posed for photos in their favouite pink shirts.
