Before you know it. Another school year will be upon us.

Every time September rolls around, it brings about some important questions for parents – what are our kids actually learning and how can I help my child have more success?

In this busy world, parents and their children often do not have the time to connect each and every night to review what was covered each school day. And aside from parent-teacher interviews, there may not be many opportunities to see firsthand what exactly is going on in the classroom.

Thankfully, there is an easy, one-stop for parents to learn what the Alberta curriculum includes for students, all the way from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

At www.learnalberta.ca/content/mychildslearning/, parents can find a wealth of information, according to Karen Rancier, the director of curriculum for Lethbridge School District No. 51.

“There are highlights for each grade level separately (Kindergarten through Grade 12) and the website includes an explanation of topics covered in every subject, including which subjects are required,” said Rancier.

She added each subject summary includes possible assessment methodologies and resources parents can access to help support their child’s learning, as the website also includes direct links to the actual Programs of Study, which are included for every subject.

“A section features “Common Questions” parent have with easy-to-access answers to them,” said Rancier, who added the Learn Alberta site also features related links such as, “The Role of the Parent” and “The Alberta education Website.”
